CURRENT SPECIFICATION OF CONTROL MECHANISM FOR ABR SERVICES
František Szilagyi - Pavol Podhradský
In ATM network environment congestion control plays an essential
role to support different quality of services (QoS) guarantees
for a large variety of traffic types. This paper presents an
explanation of the new defined Available Bit Rate (ABR) service
category. The ABR service is currently the subject of intense
development. This new service will systematically and
dynamically allocate available bandwidth to users by controlling
the flow of traffic with feedback. The rate-based congestion
control framework has been identified as the most appropriate
for the support of this new service. An evolution of control
mechanism for ABR service up to current specification is
outlined.
