THE TRANSVERSAL BEAM EMITTANCE CHANGE AFTER THE PASSAGE OF ION BEAMS THROUGH THE DIPOLE MAGNETIC FIELD

The change of the phase space beam ellipse area xx' occupied
by ions of a beam with a momentum dp/p in the presence of a
transversal magnetic field is studied. A consequence of this is
an increase of the transversal beam emittance. Quantitative
aspects of this effect are applied to the beam from a PIG ion
source. By this effect the different values of beam emittances
measured in xx' and yy' phase areas should be explained.
Analysis and numerical calculation of emittance regarding this
effect were made.
