NEW SYSTEM FOR DIGITAL ACQUISITION OF MICRODISCHARGE PULSES AND ITS EMPLOYMENT IN STATISTICAL ANALYSES

A new method of simplified digital acquisition of highly
asymmetric microdischarge pulses is described, analyzed
and implemented on a special hardware assembly. The recording
system is coupled to a personal computer through an enhanced
parallel port. The data are transferred from a static memory
of the system to a computer disk using the procedure of double
buffering that prevents delays in acquisition. Advantages as
well as limitations of the system are discussed and illustrated.
Employment of the new measuring system in statistical analyses of
microdischarges is documented and the corresponding experimental
results are given. The results concern time and height statistics,
correlation and auto-correlation coefficients, fractal dimensions
D extracted from height statistics and the dependence D(L) of
fractal dimension on loading voltages.
