A UNIVERSAL CONDITION FOR THE VELOCITY DISTRIBUTION ALLOWING SUITABLE DWELL TIME MODELING FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
Enrico Jugl - Holger Boche
The mobility behavior of the subscribers strongly influences the
performance of wireless communication systems. There are two
approaches for mobility modeling: simulations and analytical
models. First, the European Telecommunication Standards
Institute (ETSI) has chosen a set of mobility models for the
purpose of simulation in its selection procedures. These models
are very simple and often disregarding real user behavior.
Second, analytical models (eg dwell time models) are important
because they are suitable for a fundamental performance
evaluation. An important aspect of dwell time modeling is the
proper modeling of the distribution of the velocity because of
its significant influence on the dwell time. In this
contribution a universal condition for the probability density
function of the velocity is derived. With it an unbounded mean
value of the dwell time can be prevented.
