THEORY OF m-SYNTHESIS FOR SINGLE MACHINE POWER SYSTEMS LOAD FREQUENCY CONTROL

Hossein Shayeghi - Mehdi Karrari - Mohammad Bager Menhaj

Load Frequency Control (LFC) has received considerable attention during last decades. Most of the papers published so far, however, have assumed the availability of an accurate model of the power system which is not a realistic assumption. This paper employs the m-synthesis to design a robust controller for a single machine power system with modeling error and parameter uncertainties. The simulation results show that the proposed controller is robust to load disturbances and operating point variations. It guarantees stability and performs well even in the presence of Generation Rate Constraints (GRC). Compared with Hoo controller, it not only shows robust stability, but also robust performance. Mixed-m analysis is used to determine the stability limits.
