TRENDS IN DEVELOPMENT OF PHOTOVOLTAIC MATERIALS RESEARCH I. CRYSTALLINE SILICON SOLAR CELLS AND TECHNOLOGIES

Michal Ružinský - Vladimír Šály - Paolo Redi

Photovoltaics (PV) has achieved a remarkable R & D and manufacturing progress over the past ten years. Silicon technology has greatly improved and seems to be able to fulfill the requirements of cost effectiveness necessary for large scale application. It is believed that crystalline silicon materials will maintain a dominant position in the PV field for the next ten years. We focus on technology status and prospects of PV industry towards annual world-wide shipment higher than 100 MW/year.

Keywords: photovoltaic energy conversion, PV technologies, solar cells and modules
