ASSESSMENT OF GAS PRODUCING RADIOACTIVE WASTE DISPOSAL

In near-surface repositories for radioactive waste, significant quantities of
gases may be generated as a result of microbial degradation and corrosion. The
potential impact of gas generation, accumulation and migration on the long-term
safety of a repository, should therefore be assessed properly. We present here
safety assessment results of gas producing radioactive waste disposal as well as
gas generation calculations.
