MAKING A CONNECTION: PI AND PID CONTROLLER TUNING BY ANALOGY WITH THE MAXIMUM POWER TRANSFER THEOREM OF CIRCUIT THEORY
Annraoi de Paor - Brian Cogan
The well known maximum power transfer theorem of linear AC circuit theory is
reformulated as a relation in a single-loop feedback system and used to
motivate a new idea for the design of PI and PID controllers for a class of
asymptotically stable processes. Designs are compared with those yielded by a
root locus-based optimum stability approach, and with a parameter space approach
due to Datta, Ho and Bhattacharyya.
