This paper presents speed control scheme of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) using a novel fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The fuzzy logic speed controller is employed in the outer loop. The complete speed control scheme of the SRM drive incorporating the FLC is experimentally implemented using a digital signal processor board TMS320F2812 for a proto type 1.2 kW SRM. The performances of the proposed FLC based SRM drive is investigated experimentally at different dynamic operating conditions such as change in load under soft chopping mode with different rule bases. The experimental results show that the FLC is more robust and, hence, found to be a suitable replacement of the conventional controllers for the high-performance SRM drive applications.
